Participating in the "Perfect Information" Capability of the Net
Communication with people has become increasingly complex. The challenge in getting your message through has increased by orders of magnitude in the last decade. As Alvin Toffler indicated would happen, the amount of messages the average human being experiences per day is increasing to well beyond. Bill Gates, in his book... announced that with the maturity of the Internet, consumers will reach of point of "perfect information" where they will have access to all information necessary to make an informed decision among peer products. We are probably there already. At least in capability. Companies and products that cannot enter the ease of analysis done on the Internet are likely to lose market share and renewing customers at a faster and faster rate. The next predictable stage after "Perfect Information" is that of Singularity. Normally when we think of singularity, we might associate with the concept of uniqueness. Actually, there is another, almost opposite meaning, in scientific terms. It is the creation of a state where seemingly unique things are forced into categories and subclasses by the sheer amount of information to be processed. The human mind takes in new information, classifies it, reacts (perhaps creating a hold for purchase consideration "tag" for later recall and consideration), and then files the information. Let's refer to the area where the brain files these "tags" as the Outer Index. This index is temporal and is processed within days, constantly turning over in contents. How does the brain classify and determine "tagging" potential? It does this by its capability for pattern recognition. Thousands of new ideas flow into the minds of populations and slide immediately into classification, but with out triggering potential purchase "tags". As we approach Singularity, it will become more and more important to create effective "tags" for goods and services.
InteractionZ driving purpose is to deal with this issue of "Tags" by exploiting the technologies of the Internet and other evolving communications mediums. The main premise is to make available more effective ways to create "tags that stick" to the outer index of the consumer mind.
The challenge of doing this on the Internet is greater than creating "tags" in other medium, such as magazines or Televisions. With these mediums, it is almost expected that one will endure the ads whether moving images or slicks. On the Internet, people spent time waiting for screens to refresh, but they will not tolerate the playing of ads, and scorn the random pop-ups they have to contend with. They will not tolerate "junk mail" unless it is something they opted into. Most companies flag and even strip out content attached to messages and some even strip out the formatting of whole HTML messages. Screen time is a valuable commodity.
So why is the Internet a potential way to plant "tags" and why should one even consider it? The Internet's availability is approaching ubiquitous, and as a result is becoming more and more integrated into more and more people's daily lives.
